Vụn Art - From scraps to dreams

"A scrap of fabric is wasted if we don't use it to create a work of art. Likewise, a person with a disability can create value for society if they are placed in the right position," shared Mr. Le Viet Cuong, Director of Vụn Art. Vụn Art is a special cooperative established in 2018 with a mission to create jobs for people with disabilities.

Initially, Vụn Art's products were traditional silk paintings, utilizing leftover scraps of silk from the production process in Van Phuc silk village, which were skillfully pieced together by disabled artisans. Today, Vụn Art has expanded to include silk t-shirts, tote bags, and traditional ao dai dresses.

Despite being established for 5 years, the first 3 years were dedicated to training disabled workers. Not many organizations hire untrained disabled workers, as training requires a long and arduous process, requiring a lot of time, effort, and especially patience. Mr. Cuong's philosophy from the outset was that the workers may have disabilities, but the products cannot be deficient. Currently, Vụn Art provides secure employment for over 30 workers, generating revenue since 2020, but mainly to support the training process.

Vụn Art

Although Vụn Art has taken successful steps forward, in 2021, due to the negative impacts of the Covid pandemic, the cooperative experienced a long period of no revenue. Furthermore, Vụn Art's B2B and B2C channels are currently facing difficulties.

Vụn Art's business philosophy is not based on charity, nor does it exploit the disabled for funding. What Vụn Art wants to do is to provide stable jobs for disabled workers, generate sales, and elevate the disabled ahead of profits. Mr. Cuong's greatest desire is to transform from a community-supported model to a self-sustainable one. Depending on support and assistance is not sustainable in the long term. Even if it can last for decades, it is only in a precarious state.

Recently, BizCare has worked with Vụn Art to support the development of products, improve the business model, and bring the products closer to the market. Along with this support, Vụn Art will take new steps, increase revenue, and create more value for the community
