Ecosoi - Greening the fashion industry with pineapple leaf fibers (palfs)

ECOSOI was founded by four individuals who are not business people: Ms. Vu Thi Lieu - CEO of ECOSOI, is a university lecturer in environmental science; Mr. Nguyen Van Hanh is a farmer, and Ms. Nguyen Thu Trang is the chairwoman of Keep It Beautiful Vietnam, a non-governmental organization specializing in restoring traditional craft villages. ECOSOI was established with the goal of protecting the environment, promoting the value of pineapple plants, creating sustainable livelihoods for rural communities and vulnerable groups, and providing high-quality natural fibers for the fashion and textile industry.

Pineapple is a common plant in Vietnam, and every year, farmers harvest over 1 million tons of pineapples, while disposing of millions of tons of pineapple leaves. Recognizing this issue, in 2021, ECOSOI was established to develop machines such as plant fiber extractors, cotton processing machines, and fiber brushing machines. ECOSOI's products have already gained customers in Vietnam and have participated in various eco-fashion events both domestically and internationally, including in Switzerland and Canada.

According to Ms. Lieu, an ECOSOI scarf, fabric, or dress requires multiple stages of production. The process includes selecting leaves, separating fibers, drying fibers, which are done bylocal farmers, including women from ethnic minority groups. Sewing and embroidery are done by mothers and sisters in traditional weaving villages. When you use an ECOSOI product, you directly promote a value chain that includes environmental, social, cultural, and traditional values.

However, as a research and development enterprise, ECOSOI has faced challenges in terms of resources. With support from BizCare, the company is focusing on connecting and expanding its raw material sources, improving processes, equipment, and researching new product lines. ECOSOI promises to grow stronger, generate high revenue, expand its market, create positive values for the community, contribute to eco-fashion, and promote Vietnamese natural fibers to the world.
